Lyric Wednesdays - The Verve

Another Wednesday, another lyric entry from The Verve. This one is a bit more popular than the last entry. It is also off their 1997 album, "Urban Hymns."

With the economy in the crapper and money hard to come by, one phrase in this song hits home. "You're a slave to money then you die." That's life. We work for the dollar. We spend that dollar. Then we go back to our pathetic jobs and try to earn another dollar. It's a vicious cycle.

I lay awake at night dreaming of the freedom riches bring. I want to be able to not have to worry how I'm going to pay the bills. Unfortunately, I do not know how to do that. So I go back to my job and do my best. Why? To one day be promoted and earn more money. It could be worse. At least I have a job. And a relatively secure one in today's economy.

I wish I had the love of my life. I wish I had an acceptable body image. I wish I had enough money to do what I want, when I want.

It's not all bad. I have a few great friends. I have the best family in the world. I have my thoughts.

I love life. It's not easy, though. It's a Bitter Sweet Symphony...

'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life
Try to make ends meet
You're a slave to money then you die
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
You know the one that takes you to the places
where all the veins meet yeah,

No change, I can change
I can change, I can change
But I'm here in my mold
I am here in my mold
But I'm a million different people
from one day to the next
I can't change my mold
No, no, no, no, no

Well I never pray
But tonight I'm on my knees yeah
I need to hear some sounds that recognize the pain in me, yeah
I let the melody shine, let it cleanse my mind, I feel free now
But the airways are clean and there's nobody singing to me now

No change, I can change
I can change, I can change
But I'm here in my mold
I am here in my mold
And I'm a million different people
from one day to the next
I can't change my mold
No, no, no, no, no
I can't change
I can't change

'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life
Try to make ends meet
Try to find some money then you die
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
You know the one that takes you to the places
where all the things meet yeah

You know I can change, I can change
I can change, I can change
But I'm here in my mold
I am here in my mold
And I'm a million different people
from one day to the next
I can't change my mold
No, no, no, no, no

I can't change my mold
no, no, no, no, no,
I can't change
Can't change my body,
no, no, no

I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
Been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Have you ever been down?
Have you've ever been down?

Lyric Wednesdays - The Lonely Island

In honor of Kristen's PARTY at Cedar Lake, I had to use this song. I first saw the VIDEO on Saturday Night Live and I've been hooked ever since. It's funny as shit. Plus, I just found out that Lonely Island put out an album in 2009 called Incredibad. It's awesome. It includes this song plus "Dick in a Box," "Lazy Sunday," "Jizz in my Pants" and Natalie Portman's gangsta rap.

So like Neal screamed as we were partying on Kristen's pontoon, "I'm On a Boat!" I'm on a boat too, mother fucker!

[Intro (T-Pain)]
(Shortayyyy) Aww shit
Get your towels ready it's about to go down (shorty, yeah)
Everybody in the place hit the fuckin deck (shorty, yeah)
But stay on your motherfuckin toes
We runnin this, let's go

[Chorus (T-Pain)]
I'm on a boat (I'm on a boat)
I'm on a boat (I'm on a boat)
Everybody look at me cause I'm sailin on a boat (sailin on a boat)
I'm on a boat (I'm on a boat)
I'm on a boat
Take a good hard look at the motherfuckin boat (boat, yeah)

[The Lonely Island (T-Pain)]
I'm on a boat motherfucker take a look at me
Straight flowin on a boat on the deep blue sea
Bustin five knots, wind whippin out my coat
You can't stop me motherfucker cause I'm on a boat

Take a picture, trick (trick) I'm on a boat, bitch (bitch)
We drinking Santana champ, cause it's so crisp (crisp)
I got my swim trunks, and my flippie-floppies
I'm flippin burgers, you at Kinko's straight flippin copies

I'm ridin on a dolphin, doin flips and shit
The dolphin's splashin, gettin e'rybody all wet
But this ain't Seaworld, this is real as it gets
I'm on a boat motherfucker, don't you ever forget

I'm on a boat and, it's goin fast and
I got a nautical themed pashmina afghan
I'm the king of the world, on a boat like Leo
If you're on the shore, then you're sho' not me-oh
{Get the fuck up, this boat is REAL!!!}

Fuck land, I'm on a boat, motherfucker (motherfucker)
Fuck trees, I climb buoys, motherfucker (motherfucker)
I'm on the deck with my boys, motherfucker (yeah)
This boat engine make noise, motherfucker

Hey ma, if you could see me now (see me now)
Arms spread wide on the starboard bow (starboard bow)
Gonna fly this boat to the moon somehow (moon somehow)
Like Kevin Garnett, anything is possible

[T-Pain]
Yeah, never thought I'd be on a boat
It's a big blue watery road (yeah)
Poseidon~!! Look at me, oh (all hands on deck)
Never thought I'd see the day
When a big boat comin my way
Believe me when I say, I fucked a mermaid

[Chorus]

[T-Pain]
Whoahhh
Sha-sha-shorty, shorty
Yeah yeah yeahhh

Lyric Wednesdays - The Verve

The song is off The Verve's 1997 album "Urban Hymns."

I had not heard the song until this season's premiere of "Entourage." If Vince can be good looking, rich and powerful, but still alone, what hope is there for the rest of us?

I need to remember that amongst all my gripes and complaints about my life, I am a "Lucky Man."

Happiness
More or less
It's just a change in me
Something in my liberty
Oh, my, my
Happiness
Coming and going
I watch you look at me
Watch my fever growing
I know just where I am

But how many corners do I have to turn?
How many times do I have to learn
All the love I have is in my mind?

But I'm a lucky man
With fire in my hands

Happiness
Something in my own place
I'm stood here naked
Smiling, I feel no disgrace
With who I am

Happiness
Coming and going
I watch you look at me
Watch my fever growing
I know just who I am

But how many corners do I have to turn?
How many times do I have to learn
All the love I have is in my mind?

I hope you understand
I hope you understand

Gotta love that'll never die

Happiness
More or less
It's just a change in me
Something in my liberty
Happiness
Coming and going
I watch you look at me
Watch my fever growing
I know
Oh, my, my
Oh, my, my
Oh, my, my
Oh, my, my

Gotta love that'll never die
Gotta love that'll never die
No, no
I'm a lucky man

It's just a change in me
Something in my liberty
It's just a change in me
Something in my liberty
It's just a change in me
Something in my liberty
Oh, my, my
Oh, my, my
It's just a change in me
Something in my liberty
Oh, my, my
Oh, my, my

Lyric Wednesdays - Inner Circle

Due to some unforeseen circumstances (Michael Jackson and Steve McNair's passing) the last few weeks, I did not complete my goal of back-to-back Lyric Wednesdays that pay tribute to my only two friends that consistently ask me to do things.

This week's entry is a tribute to Doug. If you know Doug, you know why this song represents him to a T. It is also the ringtone when he calls me.

The song is most notably known as the theme song for "Cops," but it originally could be found on Inner Circle's 1987 album "One Way."

So put your back to wall and prepare for the "Bad Boys."

CHORUS:
Bad boys, bad boys
Whatcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do
When they come for you
(Repeat)

Bad boys
Whatcha want, watcha want
Whatcha gonna do
When sheriff John Brown come for you
Tell me
Whatcha gonna do, whatcha gonna dooo
Yeaheah

CHORUS

When you were eight
And you had bad traits
You go to school
And learn the golden rule
So why are you
Acting like a bloody fool
If you get hot
You must get cool

CHORUS

You chuck it on that one
You chuck it on this one
You chuck it on your mother and
You chuck it on your father
You chuck it on your brother and
You chuck it on your sister
You chuck it on that one and
You chuck it on me

CHORUS
(Repeat)

Nobody naw give you no break
Police naw give you no break
Soldier naw give you no break
Not even you idren naw give you no break
Hehe

CHORUS
(Repeat)

Why did you have to act so mean
Don'T you know you're human being
Born of a mother with the love of a father
Reflections come and reflections go
I know sometimes you want to let go
Hehehe
I know sometimes you want to let go

CHORUS
(Repeat)
-You're too bad, you're too cool-
-You're too bad, you're too cool-
(Repeat)

You chuck it on that one
You chuck it on this one
You chuck it on your mother and
You chuck it on your father
You chuck it on your brother and
You chuck it on your sister
You chuck it on that one and
You chuck it on me

CHORUS
(repeat to the end)

Lyric Wednesdays - Simon and Garfunkel

In wake of a few sports idols sullying their reputation recently, I have decided this week's lyrics entry will be the classic Simon and Garfunkel tune off their 1968 album "Bookends." It is a tune that I have listened to since I was knee high to a grasshopper. (Thanks to the AM radio in the Granada.)

With Steve McNair's torrid love affairs popping up and Brett Favre contemplating whether or not to wear purple, which everyone knows he will, where have you gone Joe DiMaggio?
So here's to you, Mrs. Robinson...

And here's to you, Mrs. Robinson
Jesus loves you more than you will know (Wo, wo, wo)
God bless you please, Mrs. Robinson
Heaven holds a place for those who pray
(Hey, hey, hey...hey, hey, hey)

We'd like to know a little bit about you for our files
We'd like to help you learn to help yourself
Look around you, all you see are sympathetic eyes
Stroll around the grounds until you feel at home

And here's to you, Mrs. Robinson
Jesus loves you more than you will know (Wo, wo, wo)
God bless you please, Mrs. Robinson
Heaven holds a place for those who pray
(Hey, hey, hey...hey, hey, hey)

Hide it in a hiding place where no one ever goes
Put it in your pantry with your cupcakes
It's a little secret, just the Robinsons' affair
Most of all, you've got to hide it from the kids

Coo, coo, ca-choo, Mrs Robinson
Jesus loves you more than you will know (Wo, wo, wo)
God bless you please, Mrs. Robinson
Heaven holds a place for those who pray
(Hey, hey, hey...hey, hey, hey)

Sitting on a sofa on a Sunday afternoon
Going to the candidates debate
Laugh about it, shout about it
When you've got to choose
Ev'ry way you look at it, you lose

Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio
A nation turns its lonely eyes to you (Woo, woo, woo)
What's that you say, Mrs. Robinson
Joltin' Joe has left and gone away
(Hey, hey, hey...hey, hey, hey)

Lyric Wednesdays - Michael Jackson

In the wake of Michael's untimely death, I decided to make this week's entry my favorite Michael song. It was off his 1982 mega-hit album, "Thriller."

I love this song for many reasons. One, it was made into one of Weird Al's greatest parody songs. Two, we danced to it at my sister's wedding. We split into two lines and took turns dancing down the middle of the rows. When it was Jeff's turn, he leaned back on one hand, hopped down the row and air-slapped the ugly chick's ass in front of him. Arguably my favorite moment during the reception. Third, it's just a great song that puts me in a good mood every time I hear it.

So if you're feeling down after a crappy day at work, just "Beat It."

They told him don't you ever come around here
Don't wanna see your face, you better disappear
The fire's in their eyes and their words are really clear
So beat it, just beat it

You better run, you better do what you can
Don't wanna see no blood, don't be a macho man (Uh)
You wanna be tough, better do what you can
So beat it, but you wanna be bad

Just beat it (beat it) beat it (beat it)
No one wants to be defeated
Showin' how funky strong it's your fight
It doesn't matter who's wrong or right
Just beat it, beat it
Just beat it, beat it
Just beat it, beat it
Just beat it, beat it

Uh!

They're out to get you, better leave while you can
Don't wanna be a boy, you wanna be a man
You wanna stay alive, better do what you can
So beat it, just beat it (Uh)

You have to show them that you're really not scared (Uh)
You're playin' with your life, this ain't no truth or dare (Uh)
They'll kick you, then they beat you,
Then they'll tell you it's fair
So beat it, but you wanna be bad

Just beat it (beat it), beat it (beat it)
No one wants to be defeated
Showin' how funky strong it's your fight
It doesn't matter who's wrong or right

CHORUS
Just beat it (beat it) beat it (beat it)
No one wants to be defeated
Showin' how funky strong it's your fight
It doesn't matter who's wrong or right
Just beat it

Beat it (beat it) beat it (beat it)
No one wants to be defeated
Showin' how funky strong it's your fight
It doesn't matter who's wrong or right
(Oooh, right!)
(Wooohooo)

Just beat it (beat it) beat it (beat it)
No one wants to be defeated (Oh, lord)
Showin' how funky (Eeh, eeh) strong it's your fight (Eeh, eeh)
It doesn't matter who's wrong or right

Just beat it (beat it) beat it (beat it)
No one wants to be defeated (Oh, no)
Showin' how funky (Eeh, eeh) strong it's your fight (Eeh, eeh)
It doesn't matter who's wrong or right

Just beat it (beat it) beat it (beat it)
No one wants to be defeated
Showin' how funky strong it's your fight
It doesn't matter who's wrong or right (Who’s wrong)
Just beat it (beat it) (Wooohooo)
Beat it, beat it, beat it

Lyric Wednesdays - Three 6 Mafia

I've decided to make the next two Lyric Wednesdays in honor of the only two friends that consistently want to do things with me. I have other friends that I do things with, but 9 times out of 10 I'm the one having to initiate it.

This week's entry is a Three 6 Mafia song that Murda was rolling up to when he drove down to Madison to hang with Matt and I. It is now his ringtone when he calls or texts, which he does often. Usually to ask if I want to kill. When Murda and I are rolling on the Battlefield, it is a sight to behold.

The song is off the Oscar-Award winning group Three 6 Mafia's 2006 album, "Most Known Unknown."

So what does Murda say right before he knifes someone in Battlefield? Let's Plan a Robbery!

Lets plan a robbery, (a robbery) (lets go...)
Lets plan a robbery (a robbery)
Lets plan a robbery, (a robbery) (lets go...)
Lets plan a robbery (a robbery)

See I was on the North, North side in the projects cutterfield
And dats where the the dope dealer nigga really live
See they sold crack, and they sold weed too
They specialize in cooking up the dope food
To get it out, so the junkies can smoke too
But me my nigga, I been smoking out chu
And you ain't you cause yall been cutting up du
I think I'ma have to touch ur ass with a tool
Its easy come easy go yall know the rule
HCP motherfucker you know I'll cut loose
And if you got it, I'ma have to touch you
Like knocking on your door and holla trick-or-treat fool
Its Halloween motherfucker, don't let this motherfucker sight you
A robbery to a muderery dance clue
So any way that you want it, I got chu
Its one way hallway nigga, so fuck you

Lets plan a robbery, (a robbery) (lets go...)
Lets plan a robbery (a robbery)
Lets plan a robbery, (a robbery) (lets go...)
Lets plan a robbery (a robbery)

(chorus continues with next part)

You see Im good with this yay, but im better with these guns
Im at your door to collect these funds

You see Im good with this yay, but im better with these guns
Im at your door to collect these funds...

(chorus ends)

I ran up in his spot, with the glock, his jaw dropped
he knew I came for money and da weight I heard he got
I cracked him in the middle of his face with da tone
tied his ass up and ransacked his home
I had to rape his bitch cuz da hoe was stacked
I fucked her from the back, with my gun to her back
I vamped up out his crib, with dolla and purple hair
but eventually got caught becuz of a dick hair (fuck!)

Dont let me find out that you got that dope
dont let me find out that you snitchin on folks
dont let me find out that you tryna get rich
ridin round' da fuckin' hood and they found a niggas shit
dont let me find out, feds tap a nigga phone
dont let me find out, cuz if I find out its on
dont let me find out that niggas sellin purple drank
cuz imma rob all dem fools, like I robbed 20 banks, yeh!

Lyric Wednesdays - The Allman Brothers Band

I was feeling a bit down this week so I choose the latest entry off The Allman Brothers Band's 1994 album, Where It All Begins.

This song is great to crank to 11 while driving around in my truck. It is the perfect pick-me-up when I'm feeling crappy. Like when friends blow me off or financial issues got me down or when I feel like I'm going to be alone for the rest of my life.

Sometimes it feels that there is "No One to Run With..."

Everybody wants to know where Jimmy has gone
He left town, I doubt if he's coming back home

Well Tony got a job, three kids and a lovely wife
Working at the commerce bank for the rest of his life

[Chorus]
Nobody left to run with anymore
Nobody left to do the crazy things we used to do before
Nobody left to run with anymore

I'm gonna hit the road, adios my friend
Go someplace and start all over again

Don't know where I'm going, like a gypsy out on the road
I'll go someplace and join a traveling show

[Chorus]
Nobody left to run with anymore
Nobody wants to do the crazy things we used to do before
Nobody left to run with anymore

Nobody left to run with anymore
Nobody left to run with anymore

I think Jimmy must have had the right idea
Packed his stuff and he got right out of here

I don't know where he's at but I'm sure that he's ok
Now I realize what Jimmy was trying to say

[Chorus]
Nobody left to run with anymore
Nobody wants to do the crazy things we used to do before
Nobody left to run with anymore

Nobody left to run with anymore
Nobody left to run with anymore

Lyric Wednesdays - Tina Turner

This week's entry is in honor of my sister and her birthday. I asked her what her favorite song is and she said this Tina Turner classic off Tina's 1989 "Foreign Affair" album. It is fitting since she is the best sister in the world.

Kristy, you're "Simply The Best!"

I call you when I need you, my heart's on fire
You come to me, come to me wild and wired
Mmm, you come to me
Give me everything I need
Give me a lifetime of promises and a world of dreams
Speak a language of love like you know what it means
Mmm, it can't be wrong
Take my heart and make it strong, baby

You're simply the best, better than all the rest
Better than anyone, anyone I've ever met
I'm stuck on your heart, I hang on every word you say
Tear us apart no, no, baby, I would rather be dead

In your heart I see the star of every night and every day
In your eyes I get lost, I get washed away
Just as long as I'm here in your arms
I could be in no better place

You're simply the best, better than all the rest
Better than anyone, anyone I've ever met
I'm stuck on your heart, I hang on every word you say
Tear us apart no, no, baby, I would rather be dead

Each time you leave me I start losing control
You're walking away with my heart and my soul
I can feel you even when I'm alone
Oh baby, don't let go

Ooh you're the best (woo)
Better than all the rest
Better than anyone, anyone I've ever met
Ooh, I'm stuck on your heart

I hang on every word you say
Don't tear us apart no, no, no
Baby, I would rather be dead
Oooh, you're the best!

Lyric Wednesdays - Malvina Reynolds

In honor of the new season of "Weeds" beginning, this week's entry is it's wonderfully catchy theme song. "Weeds" is a great show that more people should watch. I think some people are scared away because of the obvious drug content, but the show is so much more than that.

The song was originally written and performed by Malvina Reynolds off her album "Ear To The Ground." However, I found it because of "Weeds." The producers have a different artist preform the song each week. (At least they did for the first two seasons.) The song was selected because the houses of Agrestic are all "Little Boxes."

Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes made of ticky tacky,
Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes all the same.
There's a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one,
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.

And the people in the houses
All went to the university,
Where they were put in boxes
And they came out all the same,
And there's doctors and lawyers,
And business executives,
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.

And they all play on the golf course
And drink their martinis dry,
And they all have pretty children
And the children go to school,
And the children go to summer camp
And then to the university,
Where they are put in boxes
And they come out all the same.

And the boys go into business
And marry and raise a family
In boxes made of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.
There's a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one,
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.

Lyric Wednesdays - Lit

I picked this week's entry because of my Memorial Day TRADITION of drinking in excess. There are three reasons I remember and still enjoy Lit's 1999 hit off their album, “ A Place in the Sun.”

The first reason is that my old roommate's band, Left of Reason, covers it. Whenever they cover a song it makes me fall in love with it again. Plus, everyone knows the song so it goes over well at live gigs.

The second is that it was added to the Rock Band 2 set list – only my favorite party game of all-time. It is easy to play on hard and expert, but still fun on easy and medium. Plus, it is one of the few Rock Band songs that I do not have to read the lyrics when I’m the vocalist in The Toilet Paper Cardboard Tubes, which is my digital band’s name.

The third is my favorite reason. There is a line in the song “My car is the front yard” that is applicable because it actually happened to me. There was a party for Home Depot employees at Maple Lanes. I think it was a going away party, but I cannot remember exactly. Let’s just say that I had a wee bit too much to drink. Unfortunately, I was not smart enough or mature enough to call for a ride. When I woke up in the morning, my dad asked me if I had a good night. I said yes, and then asked why. He said “Because you parked your truck in the middle of the lawn.” I went outside, and sure enough, there it was. I parked the Marklennium Falcon on the grass between the shop and the house. Oops. I might have been too drunk to drive.

I definitely was “My Own Worst Enemy.”

Can we forget about the things I said when I was drunk?
I didn't mean to call you that.
I can't remember what was said or what you threw at me

Please tell me,Please tell me why?
My car is in the front yard
And I'm sleeping with my clothes on
I came in through the window last night
And you're gone gone

It's no surprise to me I am my own worst enemy,
Cuz every now and then I kick the living shit out of me
The smoke alarm is going off when there's a cigarette
Still burning

Please tell me why
My car is in the front yard
And I'm sleeping with my clothes on
I came in through the window last night
And you're gone gone

Please tell me why
My car is in the front yard
And I'm sleeping with my clothes on
I came in through the window last night

It's no surprise to me I am my own worst enemy
Cuz every now and then I kick the living shit out of me
Can we forget about the the things I said when I was drunk
I didn't mean to call you that

Lyric Wednesdays - Len

This week's entry is a good song, but what makes it great is that it is FUN!

There are two main reasons this song is one of my favorites. The first is the talking interludes before and in the middle. When this song came out, I just happened to be crushing on a girl named Karen. Plus, they talk about Mark. That's me! (I know, I know. I'm a fucking geek.)

The other reason is the repeated playings while moving Doug down to Georgia. Days before Jeff and I left to move Doug and Linnea down to Georgia, my truck was broken into and my stereo was stolen. I did not have time to replace it so Jeff and I had no tunes on the way down. However, on the way back Jeff and I decided to do the trip in one day. The time was something like 20 hours or so. When we got to Tennessee, (I remember only because the Wal-Mart was overrun by orange Volunteer gear.) we decided to buy a Walkman, speakers and CDs. Since I was the only one with money, I could only afford one CD. So I bought Len's "You Can't Stop the Bum Rush." I don't even want to know how many times we listened to it. The song never got old though! Plus, by the time we arrived home, Jeff and I knew EVERY word to the song!

So here's Len's one-hit wonder, "Steal My Sunshine" off their 1999 album, You Can't Stop the Bum Rush...

Hey, Matt?
Yeah, Tim?
Hey, have you talked to Mark lately?
Uhh, I haven't really talked to him but he looks pretty, uh, down.
Ha ha ha, he looks pretty, uh, down.
Yeah, well, maybe we should cheer him up then.
What do you, uh, suppose we should do?
Well, does he like butter tarts?

I was lying on the grass on Sunday morning of last week
Indulging in myself defeat
My mind was thugged all laced and bugged all twisted wrong and beat
A comfortable three feet deep
Now the fuzzy stare from not being there on a confusing morning weak
Impaired my tribal lunar speak
And of course you can't become if you only say what you would have done
So I missed a million miles of fun

I know it's up for me
If you steal my sunshine
Making sure I'm not in too deep
If you steal my sunshine
Keeping versed and on my feet
If you steal my sunshine

Check, c'mere c'mere, c'mere
Wow, look at her.
I know.
I've never seen Sharon look so bad before.
I did once before, but this is pretty bad.
Yeah, what do you think she got up to last night?
Ha ha ha
Well . . . I . . .
KAREN! I LOVE YOU!

I was lying on the bench slide in the park across the street
L-A-T-E-R that week
My sticky paws were in to making straws out of big fat slurpy treats
An incredible eight foot heap
Now the funny glare to pay a gleaming tare in a staring under heat
Involved an under usual feet
And I'm not only among but I invite who I want to come
So I missed a million miles of fun

I know it's up for me
If you steal my sunshine
Making sure I'm not in too deep
If you steal my sunshine
Keeping versed and on my feet
If you steal my sunshine

I know it's done for me
If you steal my sunshine
Not as some and hard to see
If you steal my sunshine
Keeping dumb and built to beat
If you steal my sunshine

My Sunshine
If you steal my sunshine

Lyric Wednesdays - Ice Cube

Some days work just flat out sucks. Nothing seems to be going right. Everyone is against you and everything goes wrong. For those days, which for me, today was one of those, you need a pick me up. My solution? A song off Ice Cube's 1992 album, The Predator. Pop in this song and cruise to Ice Cube's classic. This song will illicit memories of when "It was a Good Day."

Just waking up in the morning gotta thank god
I dont know but today seems kinda odd
No barking from the dogs, no smog
And momma cooked a breakfast with no hog
I got my grub on, but didnt pig out
Finally got a call from a girl wanna dig out
Hooked it up on later as I hit the do
Thinking will I live, another twenty-fo
I gotta go cause I got me a drop top
And if I hit the switch, I can make the ass drop
Had to stop at a red light
Looking in my mirror not a jacker in sight
And everything is alright
I got a beep from kim and she can fuck all night
Called up the homies and I'm askin' y'all
Which court, are y'all playin' basketball?
Get me on the court and I'm trouble
Last week fucked around and got a triple double
Freaking brothers everyway like m.j.
I cant believe, today was a good day

Drove to the pad and hit the showers
Didn't even get no static from the cowards
Cause just yesterday them fools tried to blast me
Saw the police and they rolled right past me
No flexin', didn't even look in a niggaz direction
As I ran the intersection
Went to $hort dogs house, they was watchin' Yo! MTV Raps
Whats the haps on the craps
Shake em up, shake em up, shake em up, shake em
Roll em in a circle of niggaz and watch me break em
With the seven, seven-eleven, seven-eleven
Seven even back do joe
I picked up the cash flow
Then we played bones, and I'm yellin' domino
And now I am yelling dominoes
Plus nobody I know got killed in south central l.a.
Today was a good day

Left my niggaz house paid
Picked up a girl been tryin' to fuck since the twelve grade
Its ironic, I had the brew she had the chronic
The Lakers beat the Supersonics
I felt on the big fat fanny
Pulled out the jammy, and killed the punanny
And my dick runs deep so deep so deep
Put her ass to sleep
Woke her up around one
She didn't hesitate, to call ice cube the top gun
Drove her to the pad and I'm coasting
Took another sip of the potion hit the three-wheel motion
I was glad everything had worked out
Dropped her ass off, then I chirped out
Today was like one of those fly dreams
Didn't even see a berry flashing those high beams
No helicopter looking for a murder
Two in the morning got the fat burger
Even saw the lights of the Goodyear blimp
And it read ice cubes a pimp
Drunk as hell but no throwing up
Half way home and my pager still blowing up
Today I didn't even have to use my A.K.
I got to say it was a good day.

Hey wait, wait a minute fool
Stop the shit
What the fuck am I thinking about?

Lyric Wednesdays - Eve 6

This week's entry is a song by Eve 6 that should be played in a vehicle to take advantage of it's awesomeness. My best memory of this song was when I was cruising down Calumet Drive/Hwy 42 in my truck with MML. Jeff was in the lane next to me in his Mustang. We were coming home from the bar at 2 am and probably should not have been driving. We rolled down our windows and each hit play on our CD players at the same time. We're rolling down the road, driving side-by-side, screaming this song to each other. It was a sight to be seen. It is one of my favorite memories of all-time.

I hope others have had great driving memories to this song. When I met Matt, I found out he also loved this song and knew every word. That's the mark of a truly fun song.

So hop in your car and crank up "Open Road Song."

Tonight I feel ambitious and so does my foot, as it sinks on the pedal
I press it to the floor
I don't need a girl
Don't need a friend
Cuz my friend lonesome's unconditional
We're flying forever bored

For a moment I love everything that I see, and think, and feel
I love my broken sideview mirror
Cuz it's so perfect
I'm so perfect
You're so perfect
You're not here!
I hear the change in gears

My pile shakes as i hit 80' on the open road
This is an open road song

The night is beckoning
Although I have nowhere to go but home, feels good to be alone
With every turn comes a new frame of mind
If I could frame my mind
Where would it hang?

My pile shakes as I hit 80' on the open road
My pile shakes as I hit 80' on the open road
My pile shakes as I hit 80' on the open road
This is an open road...song!

I crack a window
And feel the cool air cleanse my every pore
As i pour my poor heart out
To a radio song that's patient and willing to listen
My volume drowns it out
Ya, but that's okay cuz I sound better then him anyway
Anyday!
Ya, my voice is sweet as salt
I search for comfort and I find it where I found it many times before
Times before it could be forgotten, yeah !

My pile shakes as I hit 80' on the open road
My pile shakes as I hit 80' on the open road
My pile shakes as I hit 80' on the open road
This is an open road...song!

Lyric Wednesdays - AC/DC

I picked this song for 2 reasons. The first is because of a drunk man that my old roommate saw in a bar at noon. Why? Because it's AC/DC mang. The other is because of the all-time MLB saves leader and new Milwaukee Brewer closer, Trevor Hoffman. It is electric in Miller Park when the bells toll. I watched his first Brewer appearance on television and it was awesome. I experienced his first Brewer save at Miller Park and it was mind-blowing!

I have to admit that I am not the biggest AC/DC fan. I grew up on "Thunderstruck" because I played sports and it was also on to pump me up. I enjoy "Back in Black" and a few other radio hits. It was not until Doug Melvin ponied up 6 million bones for Hoffman that I started to love this song. I've been waiting since the day the signing was announced to hear it at Miller Park. On April 28th, I finally had the chance.

So turn the speakers to 11 and experience "Hells Bells."

I'm a rolling thunder, a pouring rain
I'm comin' on like a hurricane
My lightnings flashing across the sky
You're only young but you're gonna die

I wont take no prisoners, wont spare no lives
Nobody's putting up a fight
I got my bell, I'm gonna take you to hell
I'm gonna get you, Satan get you

Hells bells
Yeah, hells bells
You got me ringing hells bells
My temperatures high, hells bells

Ill give you black sensations up and down your spine
If you're into evil you're a friend of mine
See my white light flashing as I split the night
cause if goods on the left, then I'm stickin' to the right

I wont take no prisoners, wont spare no lives
Nobody's puttin' up a fight
I got my bell, I'm gonna take you to hell
I'm gonna get you, Satan get you

Yeow
Hells bells, Satan's comin' to you
Hells bells, hes ringing them now
Hells bells, the temperatures high
Hells bells, across the sky
Hells bells, they're takin' you down
Hells bells, they're draggin' you around
Hells bells, gonna split the night
Hells bells, there's no way to fight, yeah

Ow, ow, ow, ow

Hells bells

Lyric Wednesdays - Johnny Cash

The song I picked for this week is the most personal, heart-wrenching song I've ever heard. I listened to the Nine Inch Nails version when I was younger and enjoyed it. 2 years ago a friend of mine wanted me to download the NIN version. I did a quick search and the Johnny Cash version popped up. Being a casual Cash fan, I hit play. I've never been the same. Then I saw the video. Again, I've never been the same. It is beautiful and depressing. When I listen to Cash's voice in this song, I can hear his age, his pain, his life, his fears...and his love.

So that brings me to the point where the song cemented it's place in my life. When I lived in Oregon, I had a bit of a nervous breakdown. Okay, so it WAS a nervous breakdown. I had a woe-is-me day. I spent the whole day in my room listening to this song...and crying. I must have listened to it 35 times. I thought I was over everything so I went out on the deck to smoke a cigarette with my roommate. I just lit up, didn't say anything, and starting crying again. I went back into my room and listened to it a few more times. After a half hour or so, I went back outside and lit up again. My roommate and I didn't talk about the "incident," but we understood...life sometimes sucks.

So what song is it? It is "Hurt" by Johnny Cash, off his acclaimed 2002 album "American IV: The Man Comes Around."

I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real
The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything

[Chorus:]
What have I become
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of thorns
Upon my liar's chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
Beneath the stains of time
The feelings disappear
You are someone else
I am still right here

[Chorus:]
What have I become
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

If I could start again
A million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

Lyric Wednesdays - Harvey Danger

Every Wednesday I'm going to post the lyrics to the song that I'm grooving to at the time.

For my first Lyric post, I'm choosing a song I've loved for a long time, but recently found again due to the awesome "Punk Goes Pop: Volume 2" album. I can sing this song as loud as I want. I often switch the words to fit my experiences. It's just a happy-go-lucky song. Every band should aspire to write a song that makes the listener feel the same way after hearing it 500 times as it did after the first time. Harvey Danger succeeded.

So here it is..."Flagpole Sitta" by Harvey Danger off their debut 1998 album "Where Have All the Merrymakers Gone?"

I had visions, I was in them
I was looking into the mirror
To see a little bit clearer
Rottenness and evil in me

Fingertips have memories
Mine can't forget the curves of your body
And when I feel a bit naughty
I run it up the flagpole and see who salutes
(but no one ever does)

I'm not sick but I'm not well
And I'm so hot cause I'm in hell

Been around the world and found
That only stupid people are breeding
The cretins cloning and feeding
And I don't even own a tv

Put me in the hospital for nerves
And then they had to commit me
You told them all I was crazy
They cut off my legs now i'm an amputee, God damn you

I'm not sick but I'm not well
And I'm so hot cause I'm in hell
I'm not sick but I'm not well
And it's a sin to live so well

I wanna publish zines
And rage against machines
I wanna pierce my tongue
It doesn't hurt, it feels fine
The trivial sublime
I'd like to turn off time
And kill my mind
You kill my mind

Paranoia! Paranoia!
Everybody's coming to get me
Just say you never met me
I'm going underground with the moles
Hear the voices in my head
I swear to God it sounds like they're snoring
But if you're bored then you're boring
The agony and the irony, they' re killing me

I'm not sick but I'm not well
And I'm so hot cause I'm in hell
I'm not sick but I'm not well
And it's a sin to live so well.
