I just got back from my 2nd showing of The A-Team. It gets better each time. I plan on going again Monday or Tuesday. A few people have questioned the quality of the movie. My response? Don't worry about it. Go and enjoy The A-Team for what it is — a fun, explosive, quick-witted summer tent pole movie. It doesn't try to be The Godfather or The Shawshank Redemption. It stays close enough to the original TV series to make the Fanboys happy while also creating enough personality to stand on it's own.

Movie Mondays - Ferris Bueller's Day Off

"Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?"

In honor of John Hughes' untimely passing last week, I wanted to spotlight my favorite movie he had a hand in creating. Hughes was a great director, writer and producer. He directed many great 80's movies including: "Sixteen Candles," "The Breakfast Club," "Uncle Buck," "Weird Science" and this week's Movie Monday entry, "Ferris Bueller's Day Off."

I remember watching "Day Off" during an "off" day of school. I'm sure everyone that has watched the movie has a story like that.

"Day Off" is a great movie. From the beginning to the end, greatness oozes from every scene. And that greatness began in the planning stages. The script is airtight. The locations are awesome. The casting is spot on. I don't think I could ever imagine Ferris as any one other than Matthew Broderick. I don't think I'd want to.

To this day, I still have almost the whole movie memorized. I have to watch it at least a few times a year. If I catch just a brief glimpse of it on TV, my mood instantly improves.

I try to live my life according to Ferris. "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."

My hat goes off to John Hughes for creating a brilliant masterpiece. My heart goes out to his family and to the world. A great movie maker was lost. And a great man.

Movie Mondays - The Matrix Edition

"He's starting to believe."

"He is the one."

Those are two of the many lines in "The Matrix" that still elicit goosebumps from me. And it's been 10 years and 100 viewings.

I watched "The Matrix" for the first time in over a year. Wow. It still has it. I cannot imagine ever creating something as great as it. The story, the effects, the action..."The Matrix" has it all.

I'm sure almost everyone has seen it. If not, buy it and watch it. (Don't waste money renting a movie that you will surely buy after watching it.) If you have seen it, pop it in again and let the emotions come flooding back.

I want to take the red pill!

Movie Mondays - Cradle 2 the Grave Edition

I'm a huge Jet Li fan. Figuratively and literally. I've seen all his American movies in the theater and bought DVDs of his early Hong Kong flicks on eBay. (The voiceovers are awesomely bad!) So I was excited to see this movie again. I haven't seen it for a few years. Two things immediately pop out: DMX is a horrible actor and Jet Li is a fucking badass.

"Cradle 2 the Grave" is not a great movie. But it's fun. And it has great action sequences. Jet Li is a Taiwanese police inspector who comes to...really, the plot is not important. This is the movie in a nutshell... opening credits... fighting... talking... fighting... fighting... talking... car chase... fighting... talking... gun battle... action... tank battle... fighting... the end.

If you want a good mind numbing action movie to kill some time and take your mind off life, then "Cradle 2 the Grave" is the choice for you.

My favorite scene? Jet Li vs. the UFC

Movie Mondays - Watchmen

I FINALLY saw "Watchmen." I hate myself for not seeing it in theaters. It is awesome. It is a masterpiece. I cannot wait for the sequel.

Zack Synder is a genius! First, he remade "Dawn of the Dead" and ramped up the tension. Bitch, get out the room! Next, he brought us "300." A great movie in it's own right. Then, along comes the "Watchmen." Did I mention he was a genius? And he's a Wisconsin boy to boot. I have to support the dude.

This movie was based on a graphic novel written by the great Alan Moore, of V for Vendetta fame. Great. Now, I have to spend some more money to buy the comics.

Damn you, "Watchmen!" Why did you have to be so great?

Movie Mondays - Get Smart Edition

"Get Smart" is one of the only movies I've ever watched then immediately watched again. Anne Hathaway is at her sexy best and Steve Carrell might be the funniest man in movies now. Put that all together, sprinkle in some action, toss in a great Bill Murray cameo and serve with scenes shot around the world. That is the recipe for a great movie.

Movie Mondays - Yes Man Edition

"Yes Man" was the right movie to watch at the right time. I was feeling down. I bit blue. I decided on a comedy. Good choice. Jim Carrey is at his comedic best. (Not physical comedy like "Ace Ventura," but subtle comedy that brings smiles and laughs, not juvenile chuckles.) The whole movie oozes charm. It was a great pick-me-up at a time when I needed it.

Plus, Zooey I-Can't-Spell-Or-Say-Her-Last-Name is attractive in a I want to marry you and ravage our bodies together for an eternity kind of way. And her voice is amazing!

Movie Mondays - Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Edition

I do NOT understand all the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen hate. It seems as though every critic and non-fanboy hates it...with a passion.

I imagine Michael Bay as Russell Crowe's character in "Gladiator." He's standing in the coliseum in front of all his critics and haters, yelling "Are you not entertained?"

That's what this movie is - entertainment. It's not Citizen Kane. It's not even trying to be. It's laugh out loud funny. It has huge explosions. It has Transformers battling each other to the death. And of course, it has Megan Fox. Ooooh, Megan my lovely.

Transformers is a fun movie.

Here is how I described it to Matt..."Imagine for a second that Megan Fox fucked another Megan Fox and they had a daughter and then Scarlett Johansson fucked Natalie Portman and they had a daughter. Then the Megan Fox daughter and the Scarlett/Natalie daughter fucked and they had a daughter. That kid would be "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen."

Enough said.

Movie Mondays - Finding Forrester Edition

This is one of my favorite movies. "Finding Forrester" is a movie about redemption, finding yourself, putting faith in a stranger and staying true to oneself. It is a touching movie, directed by a true artist, Gus Van Sant.

Other than all those great things, why do I love "Finding Forrester?" It inspired me to write. When a movie inspires someone then it is a great movie.

Movie Mondays - Sex Drive Edition

"Sex Drive" is a funny road trip, romantic, buddy comedy. It is definitely worth a look. But why did I make it this week's entry? That's simple.

On the unrated version, the screenwriters warn you to watch the rated version first. And they are not joking. The unrated version is cut with green screen hotties, Photoshopped penises and blooper clips. It is definitely the version to get, but watch the rated version first. It's coherent. Coherent and funny.

Movie Mondays - Stick It Edition

"Stick It" has two things going for it that make it a must see. First, Jeff Bridges plays a major role. He was "The Dude." I'd watch him read the newspaper because he'd still be cooler than me. Second, Missy Peregrym. She's hot as hell! And since "Reaper" was canceled prematurely, I need my Missy fix.

"Stick It" is a good movie. After about 10 viewings, it has definitely cemented it's place on my "guilty pleasure" list. You should add it to yours!

Star Trek: The 2nd Time Around

I went to see “Star Trek” again tonight. Marcus Theatres was nice enough to add it to this week's list of Spotlight Movies. (If you're not signed up for their free, weekly newsletter, you can sign up HERE. The Spotlight movie coupon allows you to see a few selected flicks at any showing on Wednesdays or Thursdays for just $5.00. I see a lot of movies this way since I work ‘til 9 and the normal evening price in SheVegas is $9.00.)

After ripping on Jeff for not asking me to go when he saw “Star Trek,” I decided to call him and ask if he wanted to go. Of course, he did not answer. Oh well, I guess there are better things to do then hang out with a supposedly good friend and enjoy the Trek. (UPDATE: Jeff finally got back to me via text and said that he could not go because his Grandpa was in hospice care. I believe him, but due to some long standing trust and communication issues, I take everything he says with a grain of salt.)

The second viewing increased my love for this movie. Knowing what I now know, after Dan explained some things to me about the Trek universe, helped me understand more the second time through. I still enjoy the big explosions and quick-witted banter, but now I caught more intricacies that J.J. subtly slipped in. And the hot, green space poon!

And there is ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY, 100% nothing wrong with some hot ass, green space poon!

If Cameron Was in Egypt's Land...

...he would buy this house! Serving as Cameron Frye's house in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," it was home to the memorable scene where Ferris drives the Ferrari through the garage. According to REALTOR.COM, it's going for a cool 2.3 million dollars. If I had that kind of ching, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Movie Mondays - Star Trek

I hated everything Star Trek. The TV series looked cheap. The movies looked boring. And the fans, well, to be nice, they were “special.”

That all changed when J.J. Abrams signed on to direct the new “Star Trek” movie. The previews made the movie look awesome! So when Matt and Dan came up for the Memorial Day BONFIRE, we decided to head to the theater. It was a good decision.

“Star Trek” was funny and touching. There were huge space explosions and intimate scenes with just Spock and Kirk. It had everything that makes a movie great plus some hot, green space poon, which is never bad. As soon as we got out of the theater, Matt asked Dan and I, “Was it just me or was that green chick in her panties hot?” No, Matt, it was not just you.

Also, as a newcomer to the “Star Trek” world, the movie does include some nods to the TV series, but it pretty much starts over. Dan is a Trekkie so it was nice to have him afterwards to fill in the blanks. J.J. crafted a “Star Trek” movie that requires little knowledge of the previous Trek lore, but is still Trek enough to satisfy the vast amount of Trekkies. Sequels are a given and after experiencing this movie, I'm excited for them. Plus, I enjoyed the movie so much that I am seriously considering going back to watch the TV series and movies. “Star Trek” was an all-around hit for the producers, creators, and J.J.

I definitely recommend seeing “Star Trek” in the theater because there are quite a few special effects and some will be lost during the transition to the small screen. In fact, I plan on seeing it again if Marcus Theatres puts “Star Trek” on their Spotlight Movies list. Plus, I'll be first in line for the DVD special edition.

Oh my God, I think I'm becoming a Trekkie.

Movie Mondays - Revenge of the Nerds Edition

This week's edition of Movie Mondays is the classic 1980's comedy "Revenge of the Nerds." I remember watching the movie on television and recording it to VHS. Since it is rated "R," all the "good" parts were cut from the movie. I searched and searched for a licensed copy on VHS for years. In the first 20 years it was out, I saw the movie, conservatively, 50 times. About 5 years ago, I finally bought a DVD copy on eBay. It was the first time I ever saw the movie in it's entirely. I was pissed too because I then realized that I could have "thoroughly enjoyed" those missing scenes during my adolescent years.

Over the years, the movie has held up. It's still as funny today as it was in the eighties. And just as relevant. Just the other day at work, some co-workers and I were talking about the scene with Takashi pedaling around the track. And we all knew what he screamed when asked how he is doing. Also, judging by the recent "Family Guy" skit where Peter wins a talent contest by executing the same song and dance as the Nerds do, I'm guessing my co-workers and I were not the only Nerds that the movie resonated with.

So how good is this movie?

Good enough to fuck your mother!

Movie Mondays - Shooter Edition

I have been a Mark Wahlberg fan since the days of “Good Vibrations” so I try to see every one of his movies. I am also a fan of action movies centering on conspiracies and revenge. So when “Shooter” was released, I was stoked.

“Shooter” revolves around an ex-special forces soldier, played by Wahlberg, who is unwittingly recruited into an assassination plot. Once he realizes that everyone is against him, he goes to work, so to speak. He wrecks havoc on anyone that opposes him.

I love this movie. It has gun fights, car chases, hand-to-hand combat, good one-liners, an uber-hot female friend, and an underdog sidekick. “Shooter” gets my adrenaline pumping. After watching it, I almost always start up my 360 to do some virtual killing. A great movie will evoke emotion in whoever watches it. “Shooter” does just that.

I have to give “Shooter” must see status for action fans. And do not forget to check out “The Wahlberg Walk” during the mountain top sniper scene. Nobody walks like Wahlberg. He oozes style and when he reaches his destination, someone is bound to get fucked up.
